Newsbrief January 2002

Greetings from the A-O Ranch!

Happy New Year Y'all. Well, we put 2001 to bed at GRUENE HALL, the oldest Dancehall in Texas besides Luckenbach that I know of. We had a sellout crowd of the greatest fans and friends that anyone could ask for, and the dance floor was completely full the entire evening! Only problem was we had to quit at 12:OO o'clock sharp. Everyone was having such a good time, nobody wanted it to be over

On the other hand, I was glad the year was over with. The events of September 11, I must admit affected me profoundly as I am sure they did everyone else. I could not shake a feeling of foreboding which, is only now beginning to subside. I am so grateful that we have George W. Bush as our President to lead our nation during this most difficult period.

I was invited to participate in an event at the Texas State Capitol. It was a gathering of state dignitaries, including Texas Governor, Rick Perry, who spoke in support of our President, and several hundred supporting citizens, including a group from Bangladesh who carried a sign reading, "When America Hurts, Bangladesh Cries". The event was called "RALLY FOR AMERICA". The night before I called my songwriting buddy, David McKnight, and asked him to try and come up with a tune appropriate for the occasion. He came down to Austin and we put a song together that I am really proud of titled, "RALLY FOR AMERICA". If we had been more timely, I have no doubt we would be singing the song on LARRY KING LIVE. The lyrics are posted here on the web site, and I intend to record it soon as I can make arrangements.

I plan to do a live recording this spring. We are just looking for the perfect location as I would like to video the event as well. Also, I am gathering up a group of tunes to go back into the studio in the not too distant future. David McKnight and I are in a songwriting mode and we have completed several and have more in the cooker. In addition, I have hundreds of tunes in the publishing company, Nunn Publishing, to chose from. The main difficulty is just finding the time to prepare and record. It's tough when you're working on the road and covering an average of 1000 miles per weekend.

We are still looking for an opportunity to move back to Texas. I never intended to spend the rest of my life driving back and forth across the Red River. I had family obligations that in good conscience I could not ignore, but those have been met and completed. I tell people in jest that I am doing "hard time" up here but they let me out on weekends for good behavior. Fortunately, opportunities have presented themselves, and I feel confident that when we do return to live, we will have some music related business to occupy ourselves and hopefully not have to be on the road so much. I have to give up lots of valuable time driving back and forth and it's getting harder and harder on my family.

On the other hand, business has never been better. We had a record year despite the slowdown in the economy and the terrorists attack s of Sept. 11. Merchandizing sales and show attendance are up. I'd like to think that it's just because we're a better band and are improving by leaps and bounds which we are, but no doubt, the fact that there are more than

100 radio stations featuring Texas music, has had an incredibly positive effect. Check out Katy Key's TexasMusicChart.com for a list of stations. Call them and tell them to play more Gary P. Nunn. Only half-way kidding. Tell them how much you enjoy hearing Texas music and your favorite Texas artists on their radio station and not to forget to play Gary P. Nunn!

A NOTE OF THANKS

Ruth and I would like to express our appreciation to all of you who were so thoughtful to take the time to send us Christmas Cards. It was so good to hear from so many of you and your best wishes and Christmas cheer were received in the spirit of the season. We heard from family, friends, fans, and folks we don't even know, and we thank you all for thinking of us at Christmas time. Most original award goes to the Alger family of Lago Vista, Texas, for their Yoga Family Christmas Card, which should remind us all that "the family that bends together, mends together".

SOMETHING NEW

Our records and merchandise can now be ordered from garypnunn.com and paid for with credit card via the PAY PAL system. We have had great response to this already and we invite you to take advantage of this new feature.
