Newsletter Fall 2007

Greetings from Cow Creek,

Hello, once again from the beautiful Texas Hill Country!  I have a little time so I thought I would take the opportunity to check in with you all and catch you up on the comings and goings on around here.

I have just returned from a vacation adventure in Montana.  A couple of my best friends and I went on a 8-day horseback trek in to the Rocky Mountain Wilderness just north of the Yellowstone Nat’l Park.  We packed in by horseback and mule train about 10 miles to a base camp operated by the Black Mountain Outfitters out of Emigrant, Montana.  From there we would horseback at 5:00 AM to the top of mountain and attempt to bugle in some elk.  The elements and wolf packs conspired to frustrate our efforts.  However, we had a great ride and saw some country that few people get to see.  We did see grizzly bear tracks and tried to locate them without success.  Darn!

I got back to Texas just in time to play a big show at the Texas State Fair in Dallas.  We have been on the road almost full time here in October.  Our new single, “ADIOS AMIGO”, is out and doing very well indeed!  It is in heavy rotation on many radio stations, and reported to be the “most requested tune” at the Range, 95.3FM in Dallas.  I really appreciate all the stations who are giving us their support with this tune.  Penned by my cowboy friend Martin Fuller, it’s such a clever song and getting really fantastic response at our live performances.  As I mentioned in previous newsletters, we have it available for downloading directly from the website…..garypnunn.com    .  We have had great response from this innovative approach to getting it directly to our fans via our website exclusively and I encourage you take advantage of this new feature.  Autographed singles are available, as well, at our Bunkhouse Products Store on the website.  This tune will be included in the next CD, so this single will be a “one-of-a kind” limited edition.  Your support is invaluable to us.

I’m still trying to find the time to get in the studio and cut a new CD.  I have picked out an excellent list of tunes from the Nunn Publishing Catalogue, which include a few that I have written myself, so I am anxious to get them recorded and in to your hands.  We  are getting lots of great response from fans who hear us regularly on “XM” radio.  Many thanks to “Kilroy” at “Willy’s Place” for including us in his play list.  The feedback I’m getting is really fantastic!

I am happy to report we have entered into a promotional agreement with the TWISTED X BOOT COMPANY.  This is a relatively new company started up by my Vaquero buddy, Bobby Frazier, and they produce a cowboy and work boot line of really superior quality at a very reasonable price.  Their innovative sole makes for an incredibly  comfortable boot that is both rugged and stylish. You can view the new line of boots at their website and I encourage you to consider TWISTED X BOOTS when you make your next boot purchase.

The family are all doing well.  Ruth has been having problem with raccoons killing her beloved chickens.  Critters that kill her chickens usually end up with “lead poisoning” or getting the “bitter pill”, so they better get out while the getting’s good.  Otherwise, she is doing fine and keeping me busy on the road and cooking great food for me.  Son Julian is graduated from Texas State University in 4 yrs and one summer.  He’s job hunting so he’s available.  I recommend him highly as he turned out to be a fine young man.  I just can’t figure out where he got his height and good looks.  He did get daddy’s lips………

So did my oldest boy, Lukin, who is making his home in Nashville and working with a growing food service company called, “Plum Good Food” and seems to be getting on pretty well.  Grandson Sylas just had his 10th birthday and growing up fast.  I can’t wait to see them again.

As many of you are aware, we lived on our ranch in Oklahoma for 18 years.  It was handed down through the family.  We purchased land and added to it in the years we were there.  As much as I love our home here in the hill country, I miss the cows and horses and the ranch life, I admit.  I always said that if I made the big time, I would make a “kid’s ranch” out of it and take kids who needed some help and attention, and have them grow gardens, plant orchards, and teach them some “life skills”.  Invite senior mentors to volunteer to guide and direct them and give them the value of their experience.  I see so many young people, for lack of guidance and direction, being “led down the wrong trail” by what they see in movies, on TV, hear in their music, etc….. and they can’t find the United States on a map.  It really makes me concerned for the future of our country…..I got the concern, I suppose, from my parents who were school teachers back when old fashion subjects like reading, writing, and arithmetic were emphasized.  My folks were concerned about every student, wanting them to grow up and be “productive citizens”…. patriotic and having moral values….I had better quit now, but I can’t quit dreaming the dream of the “kid’s ranch”.

So, my friends, I will “keep on keeping on”.  I’m enjoying playing music more than ever.  I look forward to every show and especially look forward to seeing all of you… our friends and fans…...and hoping to win over and make new ones. From the feedback I get, I believe that we are successful in that regard.  We thrive and survive on your support and enthusiasm.  However, we could use more just like you.  It’s a ”grassroots” campaign….  Check out our Road Dates schedule on the website and bring a friend.

I’d like to mention a couple of shows I am looking forward to especially during the upcoming holiday season.  We will be in LUCKENBACH, TEXAS, on Saturday, Dec. 22, for the annual “COWBOY CHRISTMAS BALL”.  It’s a great opportunity to dress up in you cowboy finest.  You can bring the kids, visit, court and spark, and dance to the “fair thee well”……

We will be ringing in the New Year in Marble Falls, Texas.  My old friend Barry Linthicum and his pretty partner Linda, have just opened up a great new venue.  It’s called “SILKY’S”  and they are putting on a first class New Year’s Eve Party with champagne and food you’d expect at the Four Seasons!  We’re delighted to be able to share this special evening with them and all of you, and still sleep in our own beds.  Call Barry or Linda at (830) 798-0110  for reservations make your plans to be us to celebrate New Year’s Eve.  It’s been a great year and we’re looking forward to 2008 with much enthusiasm!  Until next time, I will remain,

Your friend for life,

Gary P. Nunn
