Greetings from Cow Creek,
Well, we made it through December, celebrated Christmas, and had a sold out show for New Year’s Eve at Gruene Hall, “the oldest dance hall in Texas”. But I can tell you, it wasn’t without sleepless nights.
It was early in December that I learned that members of the band did not intend to continue as such, so I had the unenviable task during the holidays, of locating and training band members to play New Year’s Eve, and to be prepared to perform in Washington, D. C. during the Presidential Inauguration Ceremonies in mid-January.
I am happy and so relieved to report that not only was I fortunate to have found a new group of talented and handsome young players, but that we represented the great State of Texas very well in Washington. We had the privilege to share the stage with ZZ TOP, CLAY WALKER, and NEAL McCOY at the elegant Governor’s Ball, at which Gov. Rick Perry played drums with ZZ TOP! Master of Ceremonies, Bill Webb, president of the TMTA made it happen. Great job and muchas gracias, Bill! The next evening we performed at the Black Tie and Boots Ball sponsored by the Texas State Society and I must say we had’em jammed in and two-stepping “till the cows came home”. Many thanks goes out to Doug Centilli for making it possible for us to perform at the Black Tie affair for the unprecedented second time.
The new band guys were impressed, I think. “Stick with me and you’ll be wearing horse-#$&!s big as diamonds“, I told them. I will take the opportunity to introduce the new band members as soon as we can get photos prepared.
I am so excited about the new band, the new year, and the prospects ahead. Our very first shows drew record crowds and our calendar is filling up for 2005. I’m getting great feedback from the latest CD, “SOMETHING FOR THE TRAIL”.. We’ve had two chart singles from that project. “Perfectly Normal”, and the thought provoking, “Second Thoughts”.. We released, as well, a Christmas single, titled “THE FIRST CHRISTMAS GIFT”, which I predict will be a Christmas classic someday.
Just a quick note about son, Julian. He came home after an evening at Luckenbach with a sad story. It seems a family of deer forced him to detour slightly off-road, side-swiping a barb wire fence. “Sparks were flying”, he reported. His truck is now sporting a customized “hill country pin-stripe” makeover. No whar’ but Texas, as they say.
This will get ya’ll caught up to date. I’ll take this opportunity to thank you all from my heart for your support and friendship. The Friends for Life Social Club, (I just thought that up) continues to grow as new folks discover us and come over to our side. “I never liked country music until I heard Gary P. Nunn”, is my favorite and most often heard comment. “You seem to genuinely enjoy what you are doing”, is another.
Ya’ll can help us spread it around by introducing friends to our music and bringing them to our shows and we’ll do our best to get “Texas” all over ‘em! They will never be the same. Check out the “road dates” section on the website, visit the Bunkhouse Products store, and leave us a note in the Guest book. Until next, I will leave you with this, “little something for the trail”. God Bless, and hasta la vista.
Gary P. Nunn
