Greetings from Cow Creek,
Hello, once again, from the beautiful hill country
of Texas. It’s newsletter time again
as the seasons have changed and summer is here in
full force. We’re getting mighty dry
up here already as our rainfall is down about 6 inches
for the year. I keep threatening to haul some
horses down here, but every time I do, it turns off
dry. The horses have 1000 acres of grass at
the ranch in Oklahoma and they have had tons of rain,
so I can’t rationalize hauling them down here
where the grass will be gone soon if it doesn’t
rain. I sure miss my horses…riding,
training and the related physical activity involved.
We off to a good start
for the year. You probably won’t be surprised
to learn I have changed band personnel again. For
one reason or another I have to do that.
The new band members are Derek Groves on guitar,
and Bracken Hale on bass. Beau Johnson on drums
and steel man, Danny Hawk, are still with me. This
group feels good, making it easy for me to
relax and focus on performing and improving my own
skills. They are good looking seasoned players and
veterans of the road with great attitudes and work
ethic, and I’m enjoying playing more than ever. The
audience response has been really positive, and I’m
looking forward to having these fellows around for
a long time.
Now that the band
has settled in, I plan to get into the studio this
summer and get a new CD out there. I have a
great list of songs available in my publishing company
that I am anxious to record as well as some I have
written and co-written. I have even discovered
songs I had written many years ago that I had forgotten
all about. Time..time..time…so much
to do and so little of it, it seems. Still
yet, I’m not doing too bad, and I love what
I do.
We have a couple of new
products available. One being the DVD titled “LIVE
AT BLANCOS”, recorded last June for the
TEXAS ROADHOUSE LIVE television series. That
was the night of the Tejas Vaquero Summer Meeting
and the Vaqueros showed up in style. You boys will
find yourselves all over this DVD as well as many
of the regulars at our Blanco shows so you all will
have to have one to show off to your friends.
Our latest new release is a CD titled, “TEXAS
MUSIC LEGENDS-LIVE AT THE MAJESTIC THEATRE”, from the show we did last
August at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas. This is probably the best recording
I have to date. The quality is just outstanding and many thanks goes
out to JEFF MACK, producer of the event as well as the CD. A DVD
in HD of the show is in the production stages, and from what I hear, our performance
looks great! I can’t wait to see it myself. Look for these
as well as all our products at the BUNKHOUSE PRODUCTS STORE here on the website.
A great new project
is in the works. I have been approached by
a production group who are doing feature piece about
the birth and growth of the Texas Music Industry
to be aired on CMT. Since I have been in a
position to witness its growth and development, as
well as participate in it, I suppose they want
to hear what it has been like from my point of view,
as well as many others who have contributed to and
participated in our music industry. I’m
really excited about the prospect of getting our
story out to a national and perhaps a worldwide audience!
The family is doing well. Ruthie
P. Nunn, the “boss-lady” of this
outfit, has taken on a gardening and landscaping
project. This place is starting to look like
something out of Mother Earth News and we are already
enjoying tomatoes and onions fresh out of the garden. She
is so creative and productive on the home front as
well as in the management of our music business. I
am so lucky and blessed to have her, and I could
never have wished for a better partner in life Son
Lukin is still living in Nashville and working in
the food industry. I’m hoping he might
become a chef/restauranteur someday, as I would like
to open up food and music venue. He could do
all the work and I could show up play a few tunes. Julian
is settled in with his new job working for an electronics
supply company in Austin. He is still playing
rugby and is a real physical fitness and health nut,
which is just great. Grandson Sylas will be
12 in September. He and his mom, Amanda, came
for a visit during spring break. We went to
Barton Springs, rode bicycles around Lady Bird Lake,
played golf, and had some real quality time together. Sylas
is very handsome, smart, and musically talented and
we’re very proud of him.
Before I forget, allow
me to announce that we have started a travel agency! As
we travel so much, we have discovered that we can
save lots of money by having our own agency. The
good news is that you can book all your hotel rooms,
air fares, & car rentals, through
our agency and save money as well. Just go
to http://gpntravel.com ,
and book your reservations. It would be beneficial
to all of us and we sure would appreciate it.
The phone just rang and
I was invited to play at the BLACK TIE AND BOOTS
PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL BALL in Washington, D.C.,
for an unprecedented 3rd time! Asleep At The Wheel
is the only other act ever to have been invited a
third time. This is a great honor…and
suddenly I am speechless.
I’m running out of
space so I better wrap this up and get it out. I
want to send out a “big old Texas-sized” thank
you for your friendship and support. I appreciate
it so very much. I am inspired to “keep
on keeping on” by the enthusiastic response
we get. The number of e-mails we receive with
heartfelt testimonials about how much our music means
to so many of you is so gratifying and makes me want
to get out there and play as much as I can. I hope
you will visit us at garypnunn.com, as well as the
myspace site, garypnunnofficial, note our
tour schedule, and come see us when you can. Check
out the BUNKHOUSE PRODUCTS STORE to order all our
products, and we will get them to you promptly. Until
next time, I will remain,
Your
friend for life,
Gary
