Newsletter Winter 2007

Greeting from Cow Creek,

It’s sure “nuff” winter time in Texas today. We’re all bundled up with a fire in the fireplace, and dreaming about the bluebonnets that will be in bloom before we know it. We wrapped up 2006 with a “bang” at our New Year’s Eve show at the Leon Springs Dance Hall. We had a great show as did PAULINE REESE who shared the bill with us. We were delighted to see so many long time fans as well as hundreds of new faces, many of whom had traveled from all parts of the country to celebrate with us! A special thanks goes out to TEARE HARMON and the TAME Production Group, and HANK MOON at OUTLAW RADIO 92.5 in San Antonio for their fine job in producing and promoting a very successful show.

“DID’T WE HAVE US A BALL”? January found us playing the Inauguration Ball for Texas Governor RICK PERRY, along with Steve Warner, Ted Nugent, and Clay Walker. I am so privileged to have been included in such company. We had a big freeze and ice storm that night but it didn’t put a chill on the warm festivities. I had the honor to introduce Governor Perry and he gave a great speech about all the things he “likes about Texas”, which included Gary P. Nunn! Thanks to Tommy Azopardi who made it possible for us to be there.

“CHEWING ON THE GOOD TIMES” 2006 was a good another year. We broke lots of new ground while cultivating the established venues that have been so good to us over the years. Most encouraging is the new excitement that seems to be building among our audiences. So many people are discovering us for the first time and enthusiastically joining the ranks of our longtime “Friends for Life” Society. Welcome aboard! The Sons of the “Mother Loving” Bunkhouse Band is really coming together and it is paying dividends in audience response, radio airplay, and CD sales. The support we are getting from our friends in radio is making a huge difference and we appreciate you guys and gals so very much. It’s not what we do so much as what you do for us! Thanks, thanks, thanks. Of course, the support we get from our “hardcore fans” is the most important aspect that keeps us going and makes us look forward to each and every show.

“ONE MORE TIME FOR OLD TIME’S SAKE” We have put together a new record deal that involves a merger of Campfire Records and Icehouse Music. Icehouse Music will be taking over my catalogue and producing a new record for me. They have a nationwide distribution deal as well as an innovative “point of sale” system whereby they service hundreds of retail outlets in “high traffic” locations . Perhaps you have seen their displays in upscale roadside convenience stores around the state of Texas. I am really excited to this new association and getting the new CD out there.

“IT‘S A FAMILY TRADITION” The family is doing well. Ruthie P. Nunn keeps making improvements on our new home. Right now she is busy building a new chicken house for her precious “yard birds”. She does all the designing, measuring, sawing and hammering. I just haul the materials. “Don’t worry about the mule, just load the wagon down”, which I do gladly so I’ll get some good food for supper! She never quits till the job is finished which I really admire in her. She’s working on a European tour for August right now. Looks like we’ll be going over to France for a big country festival in August. Hopefully, we’ll pick up a few more dates and participate in some “cultural exchange” while we’re there. Anyone in Europe who sees this and wants to have us perform before or after Aug. 18, just contact and we’ll be happy to share some Texas Music with you.

“THINK I’LL GO TO MEXICO” We’ll be traveling to San Miguel, Mexico, for a big wedding party the last weekend in March. Some friends there found out about it and asked if I would be interested in being involved in starting an annual “Texas Music Festival“ while I‘m there. I said sure, so the 1st Annual TMF will be held on Sunday afternoon, March 25th. We invite any of you who would like to join us for an exotic trip to San Miguel, see the sights and come to our show. I am informed that $50/night hotels can be arranged. This sounds like it could develop into a really exciting annual event. Get in touch and I will put you in contact with the parties in San Miguel to arrange for your accommodations…..“no, he never came back from Mexico………….”

“IT’S ABOUT TO GET WESTERN” It’s rodeo season again in Texas and we have some great appearances lined up for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Check the schedule. We’ll be there 3 days in a row during the big “Barbeque Cookoff”, courtesy of the Veritas Corporation. On March 18th, it’s “TEJAS VAQUEOR NIGHT”. We get to close down the entire HLSR at the “HIDEOUT”, for the “Biggest Dance in the World” at the Astrodome following the last performance of the rodeo by ZZ TOP on Sunday, March 18th Yee-haa…………!!!!!!!

“ADIOS, AMIGOS” I’m running out of page so I better wrap this up and be “getting on about my rat killing”, as my dear mother would always say. This internet thing is really great. I remember when we sent out newsletters by mail. It took about a weeks work, and I sure felt sorry for Ruth. We’re all doing well. The good part is, we love what we’re doing. We keep fooling around, we might get famous one day. Thanks to all of you, we are able to keep the show on the road. So many people tell how our music is such a part of their lives. That’s what makes is all worth while for me. I just hope and pray that the part I have is a positive one. I want you to be proud to be a Texan…. …. proud to be an American. Thank God everyday you live in a country so blessed with freedom that you have the opportunity to seek your own destiny and make something of yourself. Come see me when you can. Until then, I will remain,

Your friend for life,
Gary P. Nunn
