Greetings from Cow Creek,

It’s been a while, but I have been terribly busy.  Since last September I have had my head down writing a book.  I was given a window of only 7 months to get it done, and I’ve had to stay at it.   I put in four or five hours every day that I’m not traveling or have some other obligation.  I find it an interesting exercise that comes rather natural to me.  The discipline involved is refreshing.  You don’t have to decide what you’re going to do today.  It’s less confining than songwriting, which is so compressed.  It gives me the opportunity to relive and recall the stories and people that have had an influence on my life.   I’m excited about the prospect of having it done and out there.  Our target date for release is September and it looks like everything is on schedule to meet that target.  Wish me luck with it.

At the same time, our working schedule has a busy one.  The band is really starting to gel which makes performing more like play than work.  We sold out the last few shows we’ve done, and shattered our previous attendance record at the Valentine’s Day HUG-IN’ in Luckenbach.   This all indicates real progress and can be traced directly to the efforts of Ruth and D. Foster.  D. Foster came on board last summer to help us with our social media and has done an outstanding job.  You’ve probably noticed the activity on Facebook has increased dramatically in recent months.

The cumulative efforts of Ruth, D., and ‘trail boss’, John Burris, as well as the band members, has had substantial positive effects, and I’m grateful to all of them.

I was thrilled and honored to have received the 2017 Ameripolitan “HONKY-TONK BAND OF THE YEAR” at the Awards Ceremony at the Paramount Theatre in Austin on Feb. 15th.   The Ameripolitan Organization recognizes and honors musician and bands that adhere to and preserve the traditions of classic country, honky-tonk, and western swing.  It’s the brainchild of Dale Watson, who has immerged as the undisputed ‘king’ of traditional country music in Austin and deservedly so.   He is the ’real deal’.  Dale and Ray Benson did a super job in emceeing the awards ceremony.  The Paramount was packed with country music fans, artists, and radio personalities from all over including England and Australia.  Our award is more or less the ‘Best Dance Band Award’.  I’m really proud of that as being a great dance band as well as show band has been my goal all along.  I really appreciate all the fans out there that voted for us.  It’s not just for me but the whole band.  Much appreciation goes out to Ric Ramirez and Derek Groves, who are the backbone of the band, and contributed so much to our receiving this award.

Let me take the opportunity to thank all our fans and supporters.  Without you we would be nothing.  Also, I’d like to express my appreciation to the radio stations that play our music.  Your support substantiates our existence and makes us real in the eyes and ears of your listening audiences.

Our internet sales have remained steady and strong despite the fact that I haven’t had a new record out in 4 years.  That’s going to change as soon as I get the book finished, as we have an exciting project that you’re going to love in the works.

As always, our merchandise line is available at my website…
